Fall Farmers Markets celebrate healthy eating, sustainable living

Fresh produce, locally grown food, supporting the area’s community and businesses...These are just a few of the benefits of supporting Farmers Markets.

This fall there will be four expanded M Farmers Market events on the U of M campus. Fresh fruits, veggies and other locally sourced food items from various farms in the area will be available for purchase at each event. The events also will feature chef demonstrations of easy recipes, tips for healthy eating, free samples, giveaways, information stations and more.    crop of fresh peppers

“Guests can sample and learn how to prepare recipes for making healthy and delicious food at home, with ingredients available for purchase at the market,” says Keith Soster, director of Student Engagement.  

Visitors will also receive a reusable tote with any purchase made. 

Farmers Markets will take place twice each on Central Campus and North Campus on the following dates from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Demonstrations on cooking with healthy, local foods will take place at 11 a.m. each day:

September 15, 2016 – Central Campus, South Ingalls Mall      

September 29, 2016 – North Campus, Duderstadt Patio 

October 13, 2016 – Central Campus, South Ingalls Mall   

October 27, 2016 – North Campus, Duderstadt Patio   

The markets are a collaboration among Michigan Dining, Central Student Government, MHealthy, and Planet Blue and the Office of Campus Sustainability.
