Planet Blue Operations Team
The Planet Blue Operations Team decreased energy consumption by 8.1% in 137 facilities, saving more than $4 million in energy costs for FY2012. The avoided energy is equivalent to the amount needed to power, heat and cool 2,565 average homes in the United States, and to 17,800 metric tons of carbon emissions, similar to removing 3,562 vehicles from the roads.
North Campus Solar Panels
Ground was broken in October for the new solar energy installation at the North Campus Research Complex. The partnership between U-M and DTE Energy is part of DTE Energy's SolarCurrents program and will result in a ground-mounted solar array capable of producing up to 430 kilowatts, equivalent to enough energy to power approximately 100 homes.
