This winter term marks the University of Michigan’s seventh year participating in RecycleMania, a 10-week competition among colleges and universities across the U.S. to see which school can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate over the course of the competition.
This year’s competition will run from January 19 to March 29, 2014. The university will be participating in the Per Capita Classic (lbs. recycling per capita), Waste Minimization (lbs. total waste per capita), Gorilla Prize (total recycling weight), and Grand Champion (recycling rate). Your building can also participate in our concurrent building-to-buliding competition on campus - Recycling Champions. Sign up your building to participate by January 24 at www.recycle.umich.edu.
For the 2013 competition, U-M students, faculty, and staff did a great job of reducing their waste and recycling the rest. We finished 111th out of 274 schools in the Grand Champion Competition.
